Adventure World Temple of the Mask Expedition: Everything you need to know

As we told you yesterday, Zoey has come to Adventure World via the suggestion of Indiana Jones, triggering a set of new Expeditions to be launched in the game, starting with Temple of the Mask. This Expedition requires 450 Supplies to start, along with two each of Food, Fuel and Water, and you'll have a whopping six days to complete it. You'll be able to bring up to five friends in on this Expedition with you, so let's get started with our guide.

Exit Temple Right!

Recover the Headdress of the Mask of the Hunter
Use the First Spider Bait to distract the Spiders
Use three more Spider Bait from your Gadget Inventory
    Exit the Temple

Your overall goal with these "mask-themed" Expeditions will be to collect pieces of the Mask of the Hunter. Here, you can collect the Headdress. But just because this map looks quiet and peaceful right now, doesn't mean that it will always stay that way. You're conveniently lowered into this area right next to the Headdress, so go ahead and collect it. Just keep in mind that once you do, you'll open up a series of traps, and release tons of spiders that want to stop you from escaping with it.

To use the Spider Bait, you'll need to keep running towards the entrance of the temple until you've reached a prompt to place some. This will attract the Spiders (well, most of them) to the bait, rather than to come after you. A single application of Spider Bait has 25 hit points, and as you continue to move (and the spiders continue to devour it) the points will quickly decrease. You'll want to move as quickly as you can to the other end of the temple!

The Story of the Mask

    Ask for 10 Decoder Rings
Collect four Scrolls to Learn the Origin
Use three Pillars to Lean the Origin
Use three Murals to Learn the Origin

As you place Spider Bait and continue to run for the exit, you'll pass by pillars, wall murals and scrolls, along with a few Decoder Rings scattered around on the ground. The Decoder Rings can also be earned by asking your friends to send them to you via a general wall post on your news feed. The major problem with this quest, as you might imagine, is that gathering these items sends you off of the straight and narrow path towards the exit. Every move that you make allows the spider bait to be more used, eventually requiring you to place more, or become overwhelmed with spiders! You can craft more Spider Bait in Zoey's Tent back on Base Camp, so make sure you have a full supply at the ready!

While I'm Here...

    Collect five Jade Vases
    Collect two Ruby Vases
    Collect an Azure Skull

The Azure Skull is located right at the beginning of the Expedition, with the Jade and Ruby Vases are scattered throughout the rest of the map as you proceed. You'll come across them by default when collecting items for the Story of the Mask quest above, so it shouldn't be too difficult to complete this one. Just keep in mind, as with the quest above, as you collect these things, spiders will be moving in ever-closer to your location...

Depending on how thoroughly you explore this temple, or how long it takes you to find the right spots for pushable blocks (see the screenshot above), you could easily use anywhere from 5-10 Spider Baits in completing all three of these Quests. Luckily, you can technically craft a never-ending supply of them back on Base Camp, but this definitely explains why we've been given six days to complete this particular Expedition on its own. You'll likely need that amount of time just in waiting for your friends to send you the materials to craft those Spider Baits! Good luck!

What do you think of this first Mask of the Hunter Expedition? Do you like the idea of spider baits and distractions, that add more action to the game?

Adventure World the Great Stampede Expedition: Everything you need to know

As a second part of the Mask of the Hunter side-story in Adventure World (see the first part: Temple of the Mask), you're asked to head up into the mountains to find the Eyes of the Mask. This particular Expedition is called The Great Stampede, and it requires 450 Goods to start. You'll also need two each of Food, Fuel and Water, and can bring up to five of your friends in on this one with you for extra energy. As it stands, you'll have six full days to complete this Expedition once you start it, but don't think that makes it easy... Let's get started.

Eyes of the Mask

Use two Sirens to Wake Sleeping Tapirs
Recover the Eyes of the Mask from the Faceless Statue

Unlike the last Mask of the Hunter Expedition, this one doesn't place you so conveniently next to your end goal. Instead, you're on the far opposite end of the map, and must choose your path through Mountain Pass, while avoiding Rams, traps and other obstacles. The Sirens are crafted back in Zoey's Tent, the new building that you've been able to construct on Base Camp. You'll need to ask your friends to send you parts not only to construct the Tent, but then to make these Sirens afterwards. Once you have them, you'll find the Sleeping Tapirs - what else - sleeping on the map.

The Heroes of the Mask

Use the four Hero Statues to Read Descriptions
    Collect 10 Hero Trophies
    Disarm the Gray Spear Trap

The Hero Trophies are sets of bones with spears sticking out of the top of them. You'll find them scattered throughout the map, many times blocked by spear traps (the ones that must be deactivated by interacting with nearby rocks) or areas that are marked with skulls and cross bones. Standing on these squares causes rocks to fall on your head, so try to avoid them if you can.

Bird on a Wire

Ask friends for 18 Helium Balloons
Use Six Flightless Birds to Launch them to Safety
    Disarm the Red Spear Trap

While you can ask your friends for these Balloons via individual item requests, you can also find some scattered throughout the map. Just keep in mind that many (but not all, as seen below) are blocked by those skull and cross bone squares I mentioned earlier. That means that the Balloons will actually cost you more than just a single energy to pick up. With energy already being a rarity in the game, perhaps it's best to wait on your friends' help instead.

To find the birds, you'll need to grapple up to the rocks on the far right side of the map. The grapple point can actually be accessed fairly early on in the Expedition, but you'll need the Balloons before you can "launch" these birds to safety. While you're up here, the rock at the bottom of this cliff deactivates the Red Spear Trap.

Once you finish this Expedition, you'll have gathered both the headdress and the eyes to the Mask of the Hunter. What comes next? Make sure to keep checking back with us and we'll make sure to let you know!

Is this Mask of the Hunter Expedition more difficult than Temple of the Mask? What do you think of the more action-packed Expeditions we've seen launch recently?

CityVille Run for Governor Act 3 Bella B Goals: Everything you need to know

At the end of October, we saw the initial portion of Act 3 launch in CityVille's Governor's Run event. That particular act dealt with earning the support of Big Business, but now we can move onto something a bit more glamorous: Hollywood. Via a four-part goal series, we'll be helping Bella, the movie star, start her own "lifestyle brand." Here's a complete guide to finishing these four goals, and getting one step closer to the position of Governor!

Reach for the Stars!

Collect from Beachfront Condo 10 Times
Collect from Sprawling Mansion 10 Times
Ask for 10 Real Estate Listings

The Real Estate Listings are earned through a general news post you'll place on your wall. As for the homes, the Beachfront Condos can be collected from every 18 hours, while the Sprawling Mansions also require 18 hours between collections. The reward for this first goal is the "Bella's Penthouse" item, a home that offers 3,500 population (up to 6,500 with boosts) and gives off 400 coins in rent every eight hours.

Face the Music

Collect from Sushi Bar 15 Times
Collect from Bella's Penthouse 9 Times
    Ask for 10 Song Lyrics

Just as with the Real Estate Listings above, the Song Lyrics here are earned through a general wall post on your feed. Also, if you plan on selling Bella's Penthouse (it's worth a pretty penny in coins), you'll want to at least finish these goals first, as you'll need to collect from the Penthouse nine times to finish this goal. Speaking of, once you finish this goal you'll receive the Recording Studio, a Community Building that allows for 10,750 citizens to live in your town.

Star Power

Collect from Music Store 6 Times
Collect from Recording Studio 3 Times
    Ask for 5 Autographs

The Autographs are earned through a general news item on your wall. Again, if you want to sell the Recording Studio you earned before (it's worth a lot, although not quite as much as Bella's Penthouse), wait until you've finished this goal to do so. Finishing this goal gives you the "Bella with Fan" decoration, which has a 6% payout bonus when placed next to houses, businesses or neighborhoods.

Life Coach

    Unload 12 Paris Parcels
    Collect from Salvador's 9 Times
Ask for 10 Bottles of Bella B Perfume

Salvador's is the business you'll receive for completing the Big Business goals in the first part of Act 3, so you'll need to complete those goals before being technically allowed to do this (of course, you could always skip it with City Cash, but that's more than a bit wasteful). As for the Paris Parcels, these take one day to return. While you're waiting to complete both of these tasks, you can also ask your friends to send you the Perfume bottles, via yet another wall post. For finishing this final goal in Bella's series, you'll receive the Bella B Store, a business that requires 480 Goods to operate and gives off 3,382 coins when all of those Goods have been used.

There's only one more set of goals in this Run for Governor event, and we can only expect it to be just as time consuming as the ones before, if not more so. Either way, we'll make sure to let you know how everything in this storyline wraps up, so keep checking back with us!

Make sure to do some shopping as soon as you can, as there's no telling which of these items will be re-released next Halloween, and which will be gone for good!

Have you already spent all of your coins / City Cash on Halloween-themed items, or will you take advantage of these sale prices before it's too late?

CityVille PSA: Odd Day at the Zoo Goals are about to expire

While the Rusty's Odd Day Out goals in CityVille were retired from the game at the end of October, you might recall that there was a second "Odd Day" goal series released in the game, this one taking place at the Zoo. Edgar and Ruth wanted to go check out the Ostriches, among other animals, giving you a chance to earn coins and other goodies for completing said goals. Now, though, these goals are about to expire, so if you haven't completed them yet, now is definitely the time!

Here's a quick rundown of the goals, as a reminder if you've yet to complete them.

A Date at the Zoo

Collect from Jungle Habitat 1 Time
    Get 2 Disposable Cameras
Collect from your Zoo's Cafeteria Twice
    Reward: 480 coins

I Love Zoos

    Supply 25 Businesses
    Have 1 Savannah Habitat
Collect from the Savannah Habitat 5 times
    Reward: Ostrich Buddies decoration

Feathered Friend

Have one Ostrich Buddies in your City
    Harvest 35 Corn
    Get 8 Ostrich Eggs
    Reward: 19 XP

Clearly, the most important part of this goal series is receiving the Ostrich Buddies decoration. Even if you only complete the second goal in this series, in order to receive that item, and then let the third goal expire in your city (in around 38 hours), you'll be fine. Just make sure you work on these goals as soon as you can now, as they'll likely never come back around after they're gone. Good luck!

Have you already completed the Odd Day at the Zoo goals in CityVille, or will you need to rush through them now to get done?

Mafia Wars 2 introduces Dead End zone and 5v5 Fighting

While having an Armory is all well and good in Mafia Wars 2, did you know this new building (that can be built on your own turf) was actually released as an accompaniment to 5v5 Fighting in the game? This five versus five fighting feature is now available; that is, once you've reached a certain level. You'll unlock the new 5v5 Fighting arena, Dead End, once you reach Level 10, and can then access this arena from the game's map.

Dead End is a haunted carnival full of zombies, killer clowns, werewolves, cultists and more. Dom (an in-game NPC) is back from the dead as one such zombie, and wants you to help him get revenge on an evil witch that brought him back to life. However, Dom shouldn't be allowed to roam the streets at a zombie, so you'll need to put him back underground where he belongs!

When you build your Armory on your home turf, you'll need to collect items to complete its construction:

    3 Wires
    3 Steel Bars
    3 Black Powders

These are all three earned through general news items posted on your wall, or you can purchase each individual ingredient for 6 Gold. Completing this base Armory expands your inventory to 17 slots, and allows you to outfit five friends with armor, weapons and even vehicles. The stats of each of these items is combined for all of your friends, and then combined with the stats of your own personal equipment, making you even stronger once you head into the Dead End zone proper.

Dead Zone has its own themed store, complete with scythes and other evil items, and if you happen to earn any Victory Tokens while in this arena, they'll be added to your score on the Leaderboard as you'd expect. We'll make sure to bring you coverage on future Mafia Wars 2 features they're added, but for now, why not head into your own game and build an Armory of your own?

Do you like the idea of 5v5 Fighting in Mafia Wars 2, or this Dead End arena?

CityVille Community Post contest offers 1,000 City Cash

If you're a member of CityVille's official forums, or just like hanging out on the game's official Facebook fan page, you're likely familiar with the posts from Community Managers and mods that advertize new features or announce new activities. Well, Zynga wants to see just what sorts of posts you would come up with, if you were in charge of the page, via a new contest. The "Write a CityVille Post" contest asks you to write a very short post - under 140 characters, like a Twitter post - telling other players why they should come join the CityVille forums, head to the game's Youtube page and follow the game on Twitter.

That may sound like a big challenge (with so few words available), but there's a great incentive to doing so: the winning entry will not only be used by the devs on the game's Facebook page, but you'll also win 1,000 City Cash and 300,000 coins! With the game's current exchange rate, that's a prize of $106 US! The top ten answers will be placed in a survey, allowing players to vote for their favorites based on originality, theme and creativity. In addition to the grand prize, second and third prize winners will walk away with 500 City Cash / 150,000 coins and 250 City Cash / 75,000 coins each, respectively.

You have until November 17 to come up with something creative, but you can only enter the contest once (and can't edit your posts after), so make it count the first time! Good luck!

Will you enter the CityVille Community Post contest? What would you do with 1,000 City Cash?
